NEW WRITINGS OF SOUND AND MUSIC// Jesc Bunyard // Untitled
Artist Name: Jesc Bunyard
Instrumentation/methods of interpretation: As many musicians as possible. Some strings and an oboe at the least.
How would you describe this form of writing sound and / or music?
I would describe this as a visual score, using photograms (camera – less photography)
How do you think your proposal can be interpreted?
In previous performances of similar scores, musicians have discussed how they use the structure to define how they play and the colour to define what note they play. I, however, want to leave the decision open to them, I want it to be an honest interpretation of what they see.
What meanings or additional level provides this particular form of writing to the performance and / or to the interpretation of the work?
These scores are part of an ongoing investigation that forms my artistic practice. I explore the interactions between colour, music and the spectator. I use photograms (as well as being displayed in their own right) in installations, videos, performances and collaborations.
