The XYZ Music Play
The author who was Kenji Kojima named this method of music to « XYZ Music ». XYZ Music is an algorithmic composition that converts 3-D object into a music. It is not an emotion of a composer. It composes a music from an object data directly. “String Trio Sphere Random Points” is one of attempts to convert 3-D object to music. XYZ music is an extension of Kenji Kojima’s RGB Music Project. RGB Music Project is software reads RGB value of pixels from the top left to the bottom right of an image horizontally, then converts them to musical notes. One pixel makes three notes of RGB value, and the length of note is determined by brightness of the pixel. RGB value 120 or 121 is the middle C, and RGB value 122 or 123 is added a half steps of the twelvetone scale that is C#. The black value 0,0,0 is no sounds. This RGB music system can also make a three-dimensional musical cube, also it is called RGB color cube. One side of the cube is same as RGB value which is 0 to 255. The inside of the cube is a musical note space. The point in the space (X=120 or 121, Y=120 or 121, Z=120 or 121) is three notes of middle C. A point of 3-D wire frame can be converted to three coordinates of notes. « String Trio Sphere Random Points » was created by application « RGB MusicLab » programmed by Kenji Kojima. The original work was an animation and sound document of « RGB MusicLab ». The sample video was shot from the document. The background color is coordinated with RGB color value and the point of the object.
